Aoife Tolerton
Originally from Dublin, Tolerton studied Graphic Design at the National College of Art and Design. She began her career as a digital artist in the computer games industry in Dublin and then the United States before returning to Ireland and settling in Belfast, where she continued her work in graphic design. Aoife now works as a full-time artist, focusing primarily on botanical themes.
Inspired by the enigmatic world of plant life and the dramatic visual effects of light on organic forms, Aoife seeks to capture the individuality, character and intricate detail of her subjects. Her work explores vibrancy, movement and structure, often playing with the tension between symmetry and asymmetry while celebrating imperfection and embracing elements of natural chaos.
Through large-scale abstract botanical paintings, Aoife invites viewers to discover the often-overlooked character and hidden beauty within leaves, petals, and stems. Working primarily in acrylic and oil on linen, she completes each piece with a unique screen-printed layer. This process adds energy, rhythm and texture, bringing a dynamic sense of life and movement to the canvas.
