Francis Bacon

Francis Bacon (1909–1992) was an Irish-born British painter, widely regarded as one of the most important figurative artists of the 20th century. Born in Dublin, he spent most of his life working in London, where he developed a powerful and instantly recognisable visual language.

Bacon is best known for his intense, often disturbing depictions of the human figure, exploring themes of isolation, mortality, violence and psychological tension. His distorted forms, expressive brushwork and use of enclosed spaces convey a raw emotional intensity, frequently presented in triptychs and large-scale compositions.

His work was exhibited internationally throughout his lifetime and is held in major museum collections worldwide. Bacon’s influence on contemporary painting remains profound, and his work continues to shape discussions around figurative art and human experience.
