Crazy Jane

A solo exhibition of paintings and prints by Pádraic Reaney in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of WB Yeats

Sol Art will proudly present ‘Crazy Jane’, an exhibition of paintings and prints by Pádraic Reaney based on poems WB Yeats wrote in his later years based on an eccentric old woman, ‘Crazy Jane’.  

In the poems Jane’s chance for love is ruined by an interfering bishop, who conspired to keep her and her lover Jack apart – after Jack’s death Jane’s spindly figure is seen walking through dense woodlands, A landscape which the artist based on Coole Park.

Reaney explores the wonderful imagery of Yeats’s poetry through a stunning array of painting techniques, using oil, gesso, watercolour and charcoal. There is also a set of prints using drypoint on CDs, block prints, monoprints and carborundum.

In addition to the launch of the exhibition on 5 June there will be an evening of poetry reading to celebrate Yeats Day on Saturday 13 June.
