Paul, born in 1965 in Dungannon, Northern Ireland, discovered his passion for painting and drawing during his early teenage years. The artistic drive became all-encompassing by the time he reached 16, fueling his creative pursuits. Although he had been accepted into Art College in 1983, Paul chose a different path at that time, putting his artistic aspirations on hold. It would be more than a decade before he returned to painting.
In 1996, Paul moved to Dublin, resolving to dedicate his time to art. Since then, he has pursued painting professionally. His work has been exhibited extensively throughout Ireland, and he has participated in exhibitions in prominent art cities around the world, including London, New York, Florence, Milan, Sydney, and Beijing. The recognition of Paul's talent and the resonance of his artworks have led to his pieces being collected in both Irish and international art collections, including the Irish Government's Office of Public Works.
More recently, Paul Kerr's works have evolved with his subject matter, moving from portrait work to imagined landscapes. His most recent solo show at Sol Art Gallery in the beginning of 2022 was titled 'Between World's’, gathering a lot of attention. Writer Michael Pearce conducted an in depth interview with Paul, the link to which can be found below.
Paul Kerr | A Light Inside | Mutual Art
"In our minds, as in nature, there is light and dark. The brightest day has the darkest shadows, and on the blackest night, a pin prick of light stands out. It is in this space between the two, in no-man’s land, that we all return to, in our most private moments. I have planted my feet in this space between dreams and reality, to try to capture the human soul stripped of modernity."
