Daniel Chester is a visual artist living in County Leitrim. Upon completing a Fine Art Degree from Sligo IT in 2001, he went on to obtain a Masters in Visual Arts Practices from IADT in 2009.
Recalling the work of Turner with his jewel-like colours and hazy scenes of nature, Chester paints in oil on lightweight Dibond aluminum, an unconventional medium whose popularity recently grown. Light is an intrinsic part of his work, and his depictions of sunlight cutting through fog add to a sense of Romanticism in his landscapes, creating poetic and mythical scenes.
Chester’s accolades include winning the Cairde Visual in 2016 and the Model Artist Residency Award for his work “Mayo Marshlands”. His work has been selected for the RUA awards every year for the last four years, and he has been awarded a number of artist bursary awards from Leitrim Coco. Currently, Chester holds a studio in the Leitrim Sculpture Center, Manorhamilton.
Exhibiting in Ireland and abroad in a number of recent solo and group shows, Chester’s work has been displayed in exhibitions including: “Beyond the Stile” with Sol Art Gallery, “The Land is Ours” with Luan Gallery, Athlone, “Beyond the Plains” with Courthouse Gallery, Ennistymon, “The Ethereal Space” with Hamilton Gallery, Sligo, “Identity” Festival Westport Co Mayo, and “Seeing is Believing” with Sol Art Gallery.
Chester’s work has been purchased by the OPW, Leitrim CoCo, Sligo CoCo, Sligo IT, Danske Bank and in numerous private and international collections.
