Salvatore Alessi

Biography:

Salvatore Alessi was born in Sicily in 1974. Following art school, the Italian artist graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo where he specialized in scenography.

Initially, Alessi began working as a scenographer. He put together theatrical sets for the Politeama Theatre of Palermo and the Massimo Theatre of Catania, while continuing his passion for painting and film. In 2006, he started painting professionally, showcasing his work at Il Polittico Gallery of Rome.

By 2009 Alessi had established himself as an artist, earning his place as a finalist in the Premio Arte Award, with his first solo exhibition following shortly after in 2010. In the same year, he finished among the finalists of the Lissone Award. Alessi shot and directed his first film, “Un Uomo Nuovo”, in 2011.

His exhibitions have included national and international venues like “Il Mito del Vero” at Palace Durini in Milan, “La Leggerezza Nello Sport e Nell’arte” and “Home Italy” in Berlin, “I Quattro Elementi” in Catania and “Venti Anni” in Rome. Alessi's work was shown at the fifty-fourth Venice Biennial in 2011.

 

Statement:

“My painting is a fusion of various pictorial worlds into one. Duality cohabits harmony. My principal interest is to picture a hybrid reality, media influenced and discommunicated, a visual short circuit creating a parallel world where two or more worlds may coexist exchanging energetically in a continuous dialogue.”
