Born in London to Irish parents, Marian Witcher-Norton has not come into art through the conventional route.
On leaving school she was awarded a place in Hornsey College of Art. Unfortunately, her father was not in favour of her taking up her place which in turn led to an office-based career in London. In addition, having been instructed by her Atelier Dressmaker mother in the skills of dressmaking she established her own dressmaking business making children’s clothes. She successfully ran this business for many years while at the same time raising a young family in London.
A tragic turn of events with the premature death of her first husband led Marian to relocate to Malahide in Dublin to be close to her extended family. After her two children graduated from college Marian decided it was time to pursue her own dreams and avail of the opportunity to finally go to college, not to study art, but fashion design in the Dublin Institute of Design. While producing her Final Year Collection she rediscovered her love for painting and the rest, as they say, is history.
