Over five hundred people braced the January night to attend the opening of London Irish Art 2015 in Central Hall, Westminster. The Minister for Diaspora, Jimmy Deenihan T.D. and the Ambassador of Ireland, Dan Mulhall, who jointly launched the event, spoke eagerly of 2015 as being a promising year for Irish Culture. In addition to the launch of London Irish Art, 2015 is also the 150th Anniversary of W.B. Yeats’ birth and the year of Irish Design 2015. Dan Mulhall seized the crowd with an arresting rendition of W.B. Yeat’s ‘The Song for Wandering to Aenghus’. The opening evening also included an insightful 20-minute slideshow by renowned Irish Diaspora artist Hughie O’Donoghue and a passionate and engaging poetry performance piece by Aisling Fahey, Young Poet Laureate for London.
