A new solo show by Eva O'Donovan

Opening Thursday 23rd November | 6-8.30pm

Sol Art are delighted to announce the launch of 'Les Femmes Diaphanes' a solo exhibition of new work by Dublin based artist Eva O'Donovan. A graduate of NCAD receiving an Honours Bachelors Degree in Fine Art, Eva's work has a dreamlike quality. Historically only the most elevated had their portraits painted; it was a sign of status and wealth. Using the fabric and oils as a medium, Eva manages to convey the opulent quality that would have of been available to few at the time.

Eva Says:

"I chose the french title because my art is influenced by the interior style of Paris and Versailles.  In early 1700’s, Marie Antoinette's more frivolous influence on fashion, styling and the interior play an important role in my paintings.  Although the works only allude to the interior space with the use of patterned fabric which was traditionally used in interior design, the figure plays the main role.  Often painted in costume to create a sense of cinematic drama and theatricality the subject's poses generally mimic those in traditional portraiture.  Teaming with this the subject of the female gaze and the societal constraints that all women throughout the ages must overcome, the finished portrait emerges with significant baggage even though it may appear to come from a whimsical place."

Show runs until Thursday 30th November
