Sol Art is delighted to launch Rimi Yang’s new online show ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ opening on Thursday 6th August.
This will be Rimi’s fourth solo show with us in the gallery.
Rimi’s work can be described as amalgamating the old with the new, following the 17th century artists who created elaborate large scale portraits. Her interest in these works very much shape her process. Looking through her back catalogue of works, you can see touches of Rembrandt, Vermeer as well as Gainsborough.
Where Rimi differs is in her understanding of modern day society. Viewing her paintings, you can see the modern techniques of both the drip painting as well as the vibrant colours she uses.
Rimi explains that when she is painting it is like a meditation for her where creativity takes precedence over subject. She also regularly references feelings associated with childhood innocence as well as her heritage having been born in Korea and brought up in Japan.
All work will be posted online and will also be hanging in the gallery very soon.
